WELCOME TO ALL THINGS BACKYARD KIDS CAMP

Harvest Kids Camp is taking on a different look and feel this summer! Watch the announcement video for information from our Director of Children’s Discipleship, Spencer Doan, and Pastor of Ministries, Greg Bradshaw. Then scroll on down to additional information we have for you concerning the exciting changes for this year!

WHO

Kids ages 4-12

WHAT

Backyard Kids Camp is a four-day discipleship opportunity for kids to learn what it looks like to follow Christ, grow together, disciple others, and reach the world and have a BLAST doing so. Each day will include fun activities, games, a Bible lesson, and time to connect with their peers.

On the Friday of the week, we are encouraging families that participated in their individual Backyard Kids Camp site to gather for a time of fellowship, hosting something like an ice cream social or BBQ. This is intended to help neighbors build relationships and get to know one another.

Curriculum Overview

This year, our theme will be Breaker Rock Beach. Kids will be challenged as they discover that God’s truth never changes, everyone needs Jesus, and learn to speak the truth in love. Adventure awaits each day as kids explore tide pools, spot orcas, fly kites, and watch the mighty waves crash up against the immovable Breaker Rock!

DAY ONE:
Truth comes from God (Genesis 2-3).
DAY TWO:
God’s plan is best (Daniel 1).
DAY THREE:
Everyone needs Jesus (Mark 10:17-27).
DAY FOUR:
Jesus is the only way (John 14:1-6; 18-20; Acts 1:9-12)

WHERE

Host sites will take place in neighborhoods across north Indy. One of the best ways to get involved is to host a site in your front/back yard, neighborhood common area, or local park.

See the link below to sign up to host a site TODAY!

WHEN

Locations will take place all through the month of June.

  • Backyard Kids Camps will last between 1-2 hours and will take place from Monday – Thursday of the week indicated on the registration. Each location will indicate whether it will run in the morning or evening.

  • Registration date: TBD; Kids can sign up for their Backyard Kids Camp location right up until the start of the camp.

WHY

While God continues to multiply our space here at our Carmel location, we desire to multiply disciples across north Indy. Backyard Kids Camp is an opportunity for kids to take the excitement of Harvest Kids Camp to our neighborhoods. We want to provide a fun and safe environment for kids to learn about the good news of the Gospel right in their own backyard.

We cannot wait to see what God will do through Backyard Kids Camp 2024!

FAQ

  • Our theme this year is Breaker Rock Beach. Kids will be challenged as they discover that God’s truth never changes, everyone needs Jesus, and learn to speak the truth in love. Adventure awaits each day as kids explore tide pools, spot orcas, fly kites, and watch the mighty waves crash up against the immovable Breaker Rock!

  • Backyard Kids Camp will take place all over north Indy throughout the month of June. You get to choose a week that works best for you and your family. Four of those days will be filled with fun games and activities, worship, and Bible saturated lessons. These can either take place in the morning or evening, depending on what works best for you and your neighbors.

  • On the fifth and final day, we are encouraging hosts to coordinate what we are calling a Family Connect Night at their house, neighborhood clubhouse, or local park. These could be an ice cream social or BBQ or some other way that’s designed to get to know the families of the kids that participate during the week.

  • Kids ages 5-12 can attend Backyard Kids Camp.

  • The amount of kids will depend on the size of each host site. Most sites should be large enough to support between 7 and 25 kids.

  • We are encouraging families to either host in their backyard/front yard/garage, neighborhood common area/clubhouse, or even local park. If you need help deciding on where to meet, you can always reach out to our Harvest Kids staff team for assistance. We just ask that your location be a safe environment where kids can learn, grow, and have fun.

  • We ask that students that wish to serve have completed at least 6th grade. We do require that every adult that serves attends our training in May (date TBD) and is able to pass a background check. All people that will be serving at or present at a Backyard Kids Camp location will need to be at the training as well. This will best allow us to equip each of you so that you can have a great Backyard Kids Camp experience!

  • Each day will last between 1-2 hours (most likely 1.5 hours) for each of the four days.

  • All kinds of people! If you have friends or life group members that want to help you host, that would be awesome! If you cannot host but would still like to serve, there are so many opportunities for you to jump in with an existing site.

  • We want you to have an incredible Backyard Kids Camp experience! Your Harvest Kids Staff team will provide all the promotional materials, curriculum, safety procedures, game supplies and ideas that you will need to execute a super fun Backyard Kids Camp site. More details on what to expect on this end will come closer to time and at the training in May.

  • To best serve you and your families and solidify our Backyard Kids Camp locations, we are going to push the opening of registration to a later date in April. Kids will then be able to sign up for locations at that time up until the beginning of the location they attend begins.

  • We would LOVE for you to serve at Backyard Kids Camp this summer! You can find more details on each of the roles available at each location and sign up for them here.

  • If you are hosting or serving at a Backyard Kids Camp site, your younger children can participate as they are able. Another great option would be to bring some coloring pages or even some chalk for them to do while they listen and watch their older siblings participate. But they must be supervised by their parent who is hosting or serving.
